DC Comic’s Supernatural SPECTRE headed to FOX?

The Spectre DC Comics Fox

Fox is hoping to add a little extra supernatural to its roster of TV series by adapting DC Comics’ The Spectre. Spectre isn’t exactly one of the most well known of DC’s superheroes, like Batman or Superman, but he is certainly one of the more interesting ones. The Spectre is essentially about a former cop who is murdered and instead of going on to the afterlife is forced to exist in a kind of limbo and must hunt down criminals and deal out punishment. It’s a pretty heavy gig.Deadline reports that Fox has given the project a script commitment, which will likely be given the go ahead for a pilot if deemed suitable. The adaptation is being written to Brandon Camp (John Doe). Camp is also on board as executive producer along with Bill Gerber (Gran Torino). Warner Bros. TV, DC Entertainment’s sister studio, will produce along with Gerber. This will mark Camp’s first venture in television since he co-created the Fox mystery drama series (John Doe) in 2002. DC recently collaborated with Fox for an adaptation of Human Target, which lasted for two seasons.

The Spectre first appeared in comics in 1940 in the February issue of More Fun Comics and has appeared in many other titles, including his own series. Many characters have had their spirits turn in to the Spectre, including former Green Lantern Hal Jordan. If the series ever gets picked up and is successful, I would like to see that aspect of him explored, in much the same way Doctor Who has several different actors playing the Doctor.
