Drive – Review – A Smart Action Film

Drive is a throw back to the days of Steve McQueen. When heroes let their action do the talking and plots took their audience seriously. Today action movies are about quick cuts and loud explosions but Drive takes its time to set up the plot and the characters. Drive succeeds in building tension and making us care about the characters. Ryan Gosling shines as a man only known as Driver who is pushed to the limit when he falls in love with his neighbor Irene. In his effort to keep her safe he ends up with a bag full of cash and some crime bosses after him played by a menacing Ron Perlman. Drive also stars Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, and Christina Hendricks.
