Gatiss is Gantok in Doctor Who Finale: The Wedding of River Song

Mark Gatiss is returning once again to the world of Doctor Who but don’t expect him to look like Professor Lazarus from The Lazarus Experiment. This time, Gatiss is a one-eyed, chess playing Viking named Gantok in the final episode of Season 6, The Wedding of River Song.
That’s right, wedding bells are ringing for Rory and Amy’s daughter but you can bet things get a whole lot weirder. In addition to Gatiss’ Gantok playing a game of Live Chess with the Doctor during a tournament on Vegas 12, BlogtorWho also reveals that Simon Callow is returning as Charles Dickens, and his presence in 2011 London gives you a tiny idea of how messed up things are.
Appearing in the season finale has to be a definite high point for Gattis, who’s childhood passion for Doctor Who led him to eventually write for, and occasionally appear in, the sci-fi show that’s loved by so many. Gattis is also the co-creator of the BBC drama, Sherlock.
What does a chess game on Vegas 12 have to do with all of time happening at once on Earth? I have absolutely no idea but it should be fun to find out what’s going on when The Wedding of River Song wraps up some of the loose ends we’ve been wondering about all season long.
