Scarlett Johansson Front and Center AVENGERS Assembled!

The Avengers, Joss Whedon, Scarlet Johansson, Marvel Comics

My favorite thing about reading Marvel Comics has always been checking out how the super heroes interact with each other. They form uneasy alliances, they bicker, they have pissing contests, they even fall in love. Sometimes they fall out of love, too! For me, comics were always better than soap operas.

There was more action involved, and great artwork, too. And no heroes relate to each other in more interesting ways that The Avengers. We can’t wait to see the movie directed by Joss Whedon, bringing several solo hero stars together in one unprecedented collaboration.

Today we can offer a sneak peak at that collaboration, thanks to the pages of Entertainment Weekly. As excited as I am that my Marvel team has made it to the cover of EW, and yes, I’m a huge fan of the magazine, I must say this isn’t my favorite cover art ever. Different photos have been splashed together, but I can forgive that. In a way it serves to remind us that these actors already have lone franchises in addition to being in one film together.

May 4, 2012 is the day the film hits theaters. Fans will see Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as The Incredible Hulk, Jeremy Renner as the archer, Hawkeye, and Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow…UNITE. Hey, Nick Fury as portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson will also be in the mix, as will Loki actor, Tom Hiddleston. But the theme of the EW story is this. The heroes may be uniting, but that doesn’t mean they always play nice.

“Just because they’re super heroes doesn’t mean they’re super friends,” says Renner. Hey, that hint of turmoil and conflict is music to this Marvel gal’s ears! This issue of EW is available today.
