Syfy brings back ALPHAS

SyFy’s hit show, Alphas is coming back to the airwaves. We just learned the network has renewed “the successful sci-fi series” for second season. Is that music to your ears? Heck, I’m waiting for the show to come to DVD.
TVLine got the exclusive news. “Alphas’ smart, innovative approach to a superhero franchise has clearly caught on with our audience,” Mark Stern, Syfy’s president of original content, said. “From the first-rate writing to the outstanding cast lead by David Strathairn, we’re very proud of what was achieved in its first season and look forward to seeing this series fulfill even more of its creative potential in a second season.” Thirteen episodes are on order now for Season 2, set to premier sometime in 2012.
I’m definitely a Strathairn fan! The Academy Award nominee for Good Night, and Good Luck is the show’s Professor Xavier, if you will. He plays Dr. Lee Rosen, a neuroscientist/quasi-therapist who collected up the rag tag group of folks with remarkable abilities. they are: Warren Christie as Cameron, a lady with superhuman agility; Malik Yoba (New York Undercover) as super strong Bill; Laura Mennell (Watchmen) as Nina, sporting “the power of suggestion”; Ryan Cartwright (Bones) as a young autistic character able to “see airborne data streams”; and Azita Ghanizada (Castle) as Rachel with the heightened senses.
Powerful fun guest stars during Season 1 included Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman), Alaina Huffman (Stargate Universe) and Summer Glau (Firefly). That’s Geek-tastic! The show marked Syfy’s “most-watched scripted premiere in two years.” You can catch it Mondays at 10/9c, with a Season 1 finale on Sept. 26.
