The CW closer to teen SEX AND THE CITY in CARRIE DIARIES?

CW, The Carrier Diaries, Sex and the City

You may have heard it here first that the CW network has an eye on a new series adapted from The Carrie Diaries. The books are a prequel to the well-loved Sex and the City series and follow a much younger Carrie Bradshaw. Do new developments suggest this new show is closer to becoming a television reality?

THR was present when the CW network heard a more formal pitch about the project. What could be really fun is that author Candace Bushnell set her prequel books in the 1980s. It makes sense given Carrie’s age in Sex and the City. Do you think television could use another dose of 80s nostalgia?

So far, the folks behind making the Carrie Diaries a CW reality are Warner Bros. Television and Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire, alongside former Sex and the City writer and co-producer Amy B. Harris. Fake Empire’s Len Goldstein would serve as series executive producer. Book author, Bushnell, would also like a spot as an executive producer.

Did you know the Carrie Diaries would NOT be the only Bushnell inspired project getting a development deal if the CW closes in on it? Apparently, ABC is already obtaining rights to put on another adaptation, this time of the 2008 book One Fifth Avenue. Behind that one are Gossip Girl producer Josh Safran as a writer and Bushnell and Grey’s Anatomy team member Mark Gordon as producer. One Fifth Avenue, which sounds strikingly like One Tree Hill in title, is also said to have some of the feel of The Good Wife.
