AKIRA Tabs Gary Oldman And Helena Bonham-Carter?

Akira, the US remake based on the anime comic series of the same name, recently got the green light and the gang at the casting department has been busy making a play for a couple of big names as Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham-Carter are offered roles in the Jaume Collet-Sera-directed project.

While no signatures have been signed on the dotted lines, the offers to Oldman and Bonham-Carter aren’t as up in the air as the parts for main characters Kaneda and Tetsuo according to TwitchFilm.

In Akira, the Colonel is in charge of a government team that runs tests on people with psychic abilities. Lady Miyako was one of those former psychic guinea pigs that now helps the resistance fighters.

Garrett Hedlund is reportedly in talks for the role of Kaneda, and the Tron: Legacy star would definitely have bragging rights for working with two actors like Oldman and Bonham-Carter, who previously shared the big screen together in the Harry Potter saga.

While waiting for everything to get squared away with Akira, Oldman will soon be showing up in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Dark Knight Rises, while Bonham-Carter appears with Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows.
