Batman DARK KNIGHT Scribe Brings DA VINCI’S DEMONS

Da Vinci's Demons Starz BBC

Starz has greenlit a new project from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight scribe, David S. Goyer, who is attached to write what has been called Da Vinci’s Demons. The project is the first in a multi-year deal between BBC Worldwide Productions and Starz and will follow the life of a 25-year old Da Vinci. The series will fully explore what it was like to be the kind of genius Da Vinci was as he struggled to live this world.

A press release for Da Vinci’s Demons featured Goyer saying, “This will be a show about secret histories, genius, madness, and all things profane.  And I’m particularly excited that I get to do it on premium cable, where the story can be as dark and challenging and irreverent as it deserves to be.” Leave it to Goyer to make this things are dark as possible. The man is responsible for return Batman to a more realistic and gritty place. Surely he can do the same for Da Vinci.

Everyone behind the project seems completely devoted to it. Jane Tranter, one of the executive producers, seems particularly jazzed about Da Vinci’s Demons. She praises Goyer for his incredible imagination and experience in bringing big ideas to life. Truly if anyone were to translate the complex life of Da Vinci for television, it would be Goyer. I have no doubt Goyer’s work will instantly captivate audiences as it has done so in the past. Starz is looking to premiere the series in 2013 with Goyer as its showrunner.
