Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Poster

Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig shy away from the gritty look of previous promos but stick with classic black-and-white in the new poster for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Sony’s latest marketing toy, originally shared on Mouth Taped Shut, gives a decidedly different look at the main characters in David Fincher’s adaptation of the Stieg Larrson novel of the same name. While continuing to work with the B&W style, the new poster also captures the spirit of mystery with what has to be one of the best tag lines of upcoming films – “What is hidden in the snow, comes forth in the thaw.” It has a tone that’s both promising and ominous, doesn’t it?
Of course, we still have the two major players of the movie, with Daniel Craig superimposed over Rooney Mara, and the design gets shaken up a bit by the addition of a plant. Aside from the obvious link to plants and things hidden in the snow coming forth in the thaw, I have no idea why a plant is now sharing promo space with Craig and Mara. I’m one of the small handful of people that haven’t actually read Larrson’s trilogy, so I’m guessing it’s an important symbol in the storyline?
What do you think of the new poster when compared to the previous ones?
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo arrives in theaters on December 21st.
