Salman Rushdie: GAME OF THRONES is Trash

HBO’s Game of Thrones might have an army of faithful fans, but writer Salman Rushdie probably won’t be setting his DVR to keep track of what’s going on around Westeros because he thinks the cable network drama is garbage.
Before you start sharpening swords and forming a mob to punish such heresy, you need to know that Rushdie at least thinks Game of Thrones is good garbage… or to be more precise, it’s garbage that is watched for an understandable reason. The gang at Vulture recently uncovered an interview Rushdie had with Haaretz.com where the author shared his less than glowing opinion of the cable drama.
“There was a series called Game of Thrones which was very popular here in the United States, a post-Tolkien kind of thing,” says Rushdie. “It was garbage, yet very addictive garbage — because there’s lots of violence, all the women take their clothes off all the time, and it’s kind of fun. In the end, it’s well-produced trash, but there’s room for that, too.”
While we’re on the subject of well-produced trash, I figure now’s a good time to mention that Rushdie was checking out cable dramas because he’s working on a series for Showtime and he’s been taking a look at the competition in preparation for the new show. He’s not just bashing shows because they’re not his either, because he actually liked The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Dexter, and Deadwood.
I guess Rushdie’s just not the type of guy that’s into violence and women taking their clothes off all the time.
