Walmart on SESAME STREET Fights Hunger

The long running children’s program, Sesame Street, is introducing a new muppet to draw attention to the hunger issues of the modern American family. The new muppet is being named Lily and will make her debut during an hour-long Sesame Street primetime special, Growing Hope Against Hunger. Lily is pictured above and as you can see, she is representing a human girl. Walmart is sponsoring the special and it will feature special guest starts Brad Paisley and his wife Kimberly Williams Paisley.
It’s important not to focus on the new muppet and more on the message being delivered. “Food insecurity is a growing and difficult issue for adults to discuss, much less children,” said the Paisleys. “We are honored that Sesame Street, with its long history of tackling difficult issues with sensitivity, caring and warmth asked us to be a part of this important project.” The hope is the special will inspire those of means to help those in need.
The special will feature true stories from families who have suffered from hunger issues. It will also guide viewers on how they can better help these families that are in need to get food. The Department of Agriculture estimates that 17 million children in America have limited access to food. Most of the time, the food they can get a hold of isn’t nutritious. The special will be airing October 9, so if you have children, make sure they watch. This is an important message that needs to be delivered to as many people as possible, regardless of age.
