White House Science Fiction from ROBOT CHICKEN, IRON MAN and TRANSFORMERS Team-Up

Ex-Comm ABC

What does Iron Man, Robot Chicken, Transformers, and X-Men all have in common? The creators behind all four of those franchises are coming together to pen a White House science fiction series. Jon Favreau (Iron Man), Seth Green (Robot Chicken), Roberto Orci (Transformers) and Michael Dougherty (X2) are all writing the pilot script for the sci-fi dramedy, Ex-Comm, for ABC. Favreau is attached to direct the pilot, if it makes it to that stage, and Orci and Alex Kurtzman’s studio-based K/O Paper Products will be producing.

As reported on Deadline, Ex-Comm is described as a “presidential procedural” mixed with a ton of paranormal X-Files style suspense. The premise involves a newly elected President and his super secret Executive Committee, who investigate and protect the country from strange occurrences. As crazy as that sounds, the series will attempt to maintain a grounded sense of reality while still being a blast to watch.

I’m in love with the story on how this series came to include all four of the writers. It’s a good illustration on how Hollywood works with its many connecting dots. It started with Green and Dougherty, who began building the idea. They took what they had to Orci and Kurtzman’s company. Around this time, Favreau was working on Cowboys & Aliens, which was co-written by Orci and Kurtzman. Favreau heard about Ex-Comm while doing press for Cowboys and came on board. This will be a series to watch for. It’s not everyday you get a project this pumped up with talent.
