Zooey Deschanel gets NEW GIRL June Raphael

What could be more interesting that a lesbian gynecologist? I have no idea, so you better get a load of today’s casting news if you want to be riveted. As the headline explains, Zooey Dechanel’s hit new sitcom New Girl is getting a brand new guest star. Can you guess her occupation? It wasn’t difficult, now was it?

If you haven’t caught an episode of New Girl yet, then shame on you. Deschanel, the romantic lead of 500 Days of Summer, where she co-starred with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is quirky and adorable. As the newest roommate in a house full of guys, you can imagine the sorts of hijinks that follow.

Now, according to EW, Year One actress June Diane Raphael is coming to the set to play a friend of Deschanel’s character Jess. It is about time Jess got another gal pal. Hannah Simone is Cece, Jess’s bestie, who happens to be a model. I enjoy that thread, but think the writers need to give Cece some more dimension. She always seems angry, and not in a comical sort of way.

Raphael’s upcoming character, Sadie, is described as a “smart, slightly intimidating but helpful friend, she’s an OB/GYN doctor … who’s also a lesbian.” Sadie will appear in the ninth episode of this, the first season of the series, “with the potential to become a recurring performer.” How does this news strike you TV fans?
