AMERICAN IDOL Season 11 Promo

It’s almost that time of year where American audiences will once again be glued to their televisions to watch thousands of hopefuls audition to be the next American Idol winner. Season 11 is set to begin airing on Sunday, January 22 following the NFL playoffs before returning to its regular timeslots on Wednesdays and Thursdays. To get everyone pumped up, Fox has released the promo embedded below. Unfortunately, as far as promos go this has little to get my blood pumping with excitement.

All this little teaser does is remind me of how little American Idol has changed in its 10 years of airtime. They’re still going across country. There is still way too many people trying to get famous, and promptly crying and freaking out when they just don’t stack up to the judges’ (Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson) expectations. The one moment in the promo that is worth mentioning specifically is a little shot of Steven Tyler dancing with and subsequently kissing one of the girls auditioning. Um, okay? Someone needs to put him on a leash or give him a shock collar. Something to keep him away from touching the contestants!

It’s been many years since I’ve watched an entire season of American Idol. I lost my interest somewhere around Season 5 or 6, and haven’t gone back since. Occasionally I drop in just to see the top 10 performers, but I’m never wowed to the point where I stick around to see who wins. But America still loves this stuff, so here’s hoping it lasts forever!
