BOOSTER GOLD Takes of from FRINGE on Syfy

Booster Gold SyFy DC Comics

Syfy has ordered a script based on the DC Comics character, Booster Gold, to be written by Fringe scribe Andrew Kreisberg. The proposed series would be an hour-long drama following the exploits of a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back in time to become the superhero Booster Gold. Using his future technology and knowledge of past events, he’ll be able to orchestrate acts of heroism simply for the fame and fortune that come with it.

Along with penning the script, Kreisberg will be executive producing, reports THR. Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Warner Horizon Television are producing the project, with Berlanti also serving as an exec producer. Berlanti and Kreisberg worked on ABC’s Eli Stone together. This won’t be the first time Booster Gold has appeared on television. During Smallville’s final season, Booster Gold made an appearance (played by Eric Martsolf), and the episode is possibly what sparked interest in developing his own series.

Booster Gold’s story isn’t all about heroic thrill seeking. The central drama that will surround the Booster Gold series will be the titular superhero learning hard lessons about what it means to be a real hero. He’ll have to face the consequences of his selfish, fame-seeking actions and realize the past needs to be protected, not exploited. Once he figures out just how big of a mess he’s caused he’ll become a much more heavyhearted character, just as he did in the comic book series. If done well this could be the superhero series that Aquaman and Wonder Woman were supposed to be.
