SMALLVILLE’S Green Arrow in Nathan Fillion’s CASTLE

Just last week, the news broke that One Tree Hill alum and current White Collar star Hilarie Burton would be appearing in an episode of Castle as a Kim Kardashian-like reality TV star. In a follow up story, it’s been announced Burton’s character will be given a boyfriend to be played by Justin Hartley, best known for his role as Green Arrow on Smallville and his recent guest appearance on an episode of Chuck.

TVLine reported the casting, confirming Hartley would be appearing in the same episode as Burton, titled “An Embarrassment of Bitches”. With Burton playing someone modeled after Kim Kardashian, its safe to assume Hartley’s character may share similarities to Kardashian’s real life ex-husband Kris Humphries. The entire episode sounds like it could be a great exercise in pop culture humor. Poking fun at reality TV almost always produces big laughs (The Soup is great example of said laughs) and I hope this opportunity on Castle doesn’t go to waste. On the downside, when Burton’s casting was announced it seemed like the show was going to attempt to humanize the reality stars instead of making fun of them. It’s a noble goal, but I think it will be hard to sympathize with someone who makes so much funny to just live his or her life as dramatically as possible.

The episode is set to air early in the New Year. In the meantime, Castle will air its next new episode on Monday, Dec. 5^th, titled “Cuffed”.
