DOCTOR WHO – The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe Christmas Special Teaser

The Doctor The Widow and The Wardrobe Doctor Who BBC Matt Smith Christmas special

It might not be Doctor Who Goes to Narnia but the new Christmas special is close enough to draw one or two comparisons as Matt Smith’s Doctor takes a family on an adventure they won’t soon forget.

Last year, the Time Lord tackled Charles Dickens with A Christmas Carol. This year, showrunner Steven Moffat and director Farren Blackburn are taking Doctor Who in a slightly different direction with The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe. When you watch the trailer, you’ll realize the title isn’t a coincidence.

The Doctor has traveled to London during WWII and has apparently taken on a winter job as the caretaker for a house, where Madge Arwell (the widow) and her two children, Lily and Cyril, arrive after being evacuated from their home. You can probably guess what the Whovian version of the Wardrobe is, but, surprisingly, the TARDIS isn’t the key to otherworldly exploration this time around.

Once again, as seems to be case with many of the Doctor Who specials, the Doctor’s companions apparently have other things to do. It’s always a little odd to see the Doctor without his usual tagalongs but the family acts as his companions this time around.

I know you probably need your Who fix by now, so check out the trailer and get ready to have another Doctor Who Christmas.

The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe is scheduled to air on Christmas Day on the BBC in the UK, and on BBC America in the USA.
