GREY’S ANATOMY Orders up a Set of Sisters

Two bickering sisters is just what the doctor ordered for an upcoming episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. If Grey’s wants to hold our attention with sisters, they’ll have to be pretty captivating, so why not bring in My Big Fat Greek Wedding’s Nia Vardalos and Frasier’s Peri Gilpin. They might not look related, but they have commanding screen presence, making them rather perfect choices to have petty squabble over whatever it is sisters fight about.

As THR reported, Vardalos plays Karen Winterbottom (great name!) and Gilpin is her sister, Marcy. The two come to Seattle Grace under currently unknown circumstances. My imagination makes me think one of their parents is possibly on their death bed and the impending funeral is what drives a stake between the sisters. I’ve actually seen this situation between my mother-in-law and her sister, and it can be a decent source for drama if that’s the direction Grey’s is taking this. The other side of the coin is the comical aspect, and what’s funnier than siblings getting at each other’s throats over something frivolous. Once the official synopsis for the episode is released we’ll have a better idea of exactly what is causing all the quarreling. Until then I’m going to pretend it’s a dying parent.

Vardalos has a comedy in development with the Grey’s and Cougar Town producer, ABC Studios. Her husband, Ian Gomez, stars on Cougar Town and his experiences with ABC has prompted her to get involved with her own show.
