GRIMM Gets ANGEL Amy Acker for Black Widow

Grimm NBC

NBC’s Grimm is hoping to entice fans of such Joss Whedon works as Dollhouse and Angel by casting an actress who has appeared in both: Amy Acker. Grimm’s hook has been taking old folktales, usually works by the Brothers Grimm, and contemporizing them. Ackers episode is no different, with her cast as the monster of the week, though I’m not familiar at all with whatever folktale her character is from.

According to TVLine, Acker plays someone known as (rather terrifyingly) Black Widow. In the normal world she goes by Lena, a seemingly ordinary housewife, but who cares what her beard is? Black Widow suffers from a disease causing her to rapidly age, requiring her to regain her youth every five years. And how exactly does she do that? She finds and drains the life from three guys over three days. Yikes. I wonder what her husband thinks of all these killings? Surely he’s noticed she gets younger every five years, right? Unless her husband changes with every cycle. Oh man, that would suck for him, but would be totally appropriate for the character. It’s a good part for Acker, who has a certain excellence when it comes to villainess characters.

The episode will air in early 2012. Will Acker’s presence manage to pull in new viewers (AKA Whedon fans)? If you happen to be a fan of Whedon, and by extention Amy Acker, comment below what you think of her casting. Personally, I’m indifferent. Whendon isn’t involved in Grimm, so it doesn’t matter who’s in it. If the show is good I’ll watch it.
