ENDER’S GAME Grabs another HUGO – Asa Butterfield is Ender Wiggins

Asa Butterfield Ender's Game Orson Scott Card

While he can currently be seen running through 1930’s Paris in Hugo, Asa Butterfield will soon be taking a trip to the future where he’ll be battling insect-like aliens as Ender Wiggins in the film adaptation of Ender’s Game.

It has to be rough to be a child star in Hollywood because keeping secrets can be a difficult business. Poor Butterfield had to go to New York over the weekend to promote Hugo, but he had plenty of questions tossed his way about the possibility of landing the lead in Ender’s Game. Of course, Butterfield couldn’t comment at the time and he actually dodged the questions like a pro. However, the veil of secrecy has finally been lifted and Asa himself recently tweeted the news, starting off with a few quotes from Ender Wiggins, followed by the excited exclamation, “Oh yes. Im really doing it. F*** YEAAA!!!” and finally announcing the news in a “wee bit more civilized” fashion.

Just in case you haven’t read the Orson Scott Card novel the movie is based on, Ender’s Game tells the story of Ender Wiggins, a young boy that goes to military training school in preparation for fighting the invading forces of insect-like aliens known as Formics. While at the school, Ender is revealed to be a strategic genius.

There are a few books in the series so there’s a good chance that Ender’s Game won’t be the only film following the adventures of Ender Wiggins. Considering that he’s only 14-years-old, Butterfield might want to chat with Daniel Radcliffe and the rest of the Harry Potter gang to find out what it’s like to grow up in the middle of a popular franchise, which Ender’s Game could become if handled properly.
