GAME OF THRONES Season 2 Weather Demons

Game of Thrones HBO

Despite the weather at times behaving, as Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark) puts it, like a demon, production for Season 2 of Game of Thrones appears to be one heck of a rewarding experience. In the latest production diary for the series, we are taken to Belfast, Northern Ireland, where production was filming at the time this video was shot. We are immediately introduced to a beautiful landscape. Even location manager Robert Boake, who can be assumed to have scene his fair share of vistas, is taken away by Ireland’s rugged beauty. Too bad it rains in buckets.

No one knows how wet it gets better than Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister), who had been dragged around in the mud for a scene. Ireland can be as pretty as it wants, but swimming in mud is never a lovely time. That’s the downside to places like Ireland; they have really fantastic landscapes to behold, but me oh my does it rain a lot! I’ve always wanted to visit Ireland, but I couldn’t imagine living in such a gloomy place for an extended period of time. It’s fine when you’re just visiting, but all the wet all the time? No thank you.

The good thing about all the rain is it means production doesn’t need to use sprinklers to fake it! All those natural elements are already there making it look twice as good on camera. And there are plenty of cliffs and hills to shoot on. This season will have incredibly high production value. And thanks to this video, we’re a little closer to understanding just how hard it is to achieve such levels.
