Hell on Wheels Rolls on to Season 2
Programming at AMC seems to always be pleasing somebody, as evidenced by the networks decision to renew freshman series Hell On Wheels for a second season. While it hasn’t received the kind of praise veteran series like Mad Men or Breaking Bad garner, it still managed to draw in a large number of viewers during it’s premiere. In fact, Hell On Wheel has the highest series premiere on AMC, just behind The Walking Dead with 4.4 million viewers. In more recent weeks, the series has fallen a bit, but still manages to bring in more than 2 million viewers each week. And I mean, if The Killing can get a second season, surely Hell On Wheels deserves one.
We first mentioned the possibility of Hell On Wheel’s second season on our sister site, Criminal Complex. The series, only seven episodes in and poised to air Episode 8 this coming Sunday, is set in the year 1865 in a post-Civil War America. It follows Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount) as he seeks vengeance on the Union soldiers responsible for the death of his wife. For those that have been with the show since the beginning, this is a huge reward. While it’s not a secret Hell On Wheel’s isn’t the greatest production on television, it has a grand potential. Now it has the chance to truly expand itself into the territory occupied by Mad Men and Breaking Bad.
If you’re one of the people who decided this show wasn’t for you, now’s a good time to get back on the bandwagon.
