Hunger Games Sound Line-Up Beyond Taylor Swift

Arcade Fire

The Hunger Games movie won’t hit theaters until March of 2012, but already, the film’s soundtrack is causing quite a stir. Earlier this week Boomtron invited fans to give a listen to the track titled “Safe and Sound”. It’s the soundtrack’s first single to be released and it features the voices of Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars. Ready to discover what else the soundtrack will have in store for you? We thought you might be.

According to EW, Swift is joined by some big names in indie music. Universal made the announcement that the Decemberists and Win Butler and Regine Chassagne of Arcade Fire will also be featured on the album by T-Bone Burnett and James Newton Howard. Howard replaced Danny Elfman, who had scheduling conflicts. The frontrunners of Arcade Fire are pictured above.

SPOILER ALERT: You will also hear actress Jennifer Lawrence singing “Rue’s Lullaby”, a tune described in the book, which is the first in a trilogy by Suzanne Collins. Hey, I won’t tell you the circumstances that lead to Katniss singing, just in case you haven’t read The Hunger Games. The creative types behind this adaptation expect The Hunger Games soundtrack to be as big a seller as the Twilight Saga soundtracks have been. That’s a safe bet if you ask me.

The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel set in a dark future vision of our world where youngsters are forced to compete in barbaric, televised, gladiatorial games to the death. Tributes, as they are called, are chosen each year via lottery during The Reaping. There can be only one survivor.
