More Nathan Fillion and CASTLE Season 4

Christmas has come early for fans of ABC’s Castle, as the network has commissioned an extra episode for the series fourth season, bringing the total from 22 to 23. Now for a guy like me, who doesn’t watch Castle religiously, this news does very little in terms of excitement for me. I can however appreciate what this means for the show’s biggest fans. It really is like a gift when your favorite series is extended by an episode or two. Now with the first half of the season over, this will help make the wait until Jan. 9, when the show returns, that much easier.

It was EW.com that first reported the extension. Hopefully the show’s writers will be able to work the extra episode into the narrative of the season, so it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. It shouldn’t be too hard; this is a procedural after all. It’s not as if you gave a show like Breaking Bad more time. A plot heavy series such as that would not really benefit from more time to tell its story, unless planned way ahead of time. Castle has many one-off episodes; so fitting in an extra one shouldn’t be a big deal.

When the second half of Season 4 begins, there are several new guest stars to look forward to. As previously reported, Hilarie Burton and Jamie Ray Newman will guest star in Episode 13. So we have killer guest stars and an extra episode. Castle is on fire!
