Naya Rivera’s lost GLEE “Santa Baby”

Glee Fox

When Glee aired it’s mid-season finale and Christmas special, “Extraordinary Merry Christmas”, it was originally supposed to include ten songs, including “Santa Baby” sung by Santana (Naya Rivera). While the song does appear on Glee: The Christmas Album, it had to be cut from the episode due to time constraints. Luckily, it was made known the clip would not be lost on the cutting room floor and would be available in the Season 3 boxset. Well, Christmas has come early, as the performance was released online for all to see.

According to TV Guide, Santana is showing Finn (Cory Monteith) a thing or two about shopping, hence the choice of “Santa Baby”, the ultimate consumer Christmas song. Santana spends the entire video walking around like she owns the place, having the staff of some jewelry store place various expensive looking necklaces and bracelets on her person. The entire time Finn just looks on completely confused by the situation. I feel you Finn. Girls and shopping are a strange phenomenon, and one that guy’s like us will never fully understand.

The video, while fun and sexy, doesn’t seem like it was heavily important to what was happening in the episode, which I can guess is why it was chosen for removal. In the big scheme of things, Glee didn’t need a pretty lady being covered in diamond jewelry. In fact, women in real life don’t need that. Diamonds are expensive! I’m not made of money ladies.
