Ridley Scott’s Prometheus Poster
Prometheus is shaping up to be what I anticipate will become one of the most talked about movies of 2012. That is a tall order, considering The Hunger Games and The Avengers will also be due out next year. What makes Ridley Scott’s latest venture so intriguing? I’ll tell you as you enjoy the view at this new poster.
It is largely a photo of mysterious statues left by some space civilization as far as I can tell. The face is ominous, as our explorers will find. Speaking of which, the cast following Scott into the dark this time around are Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idriss Elba, Guy Pearce, Ben Foster and Patrick Wilson. It dropped my jaw to learn so many stars would be taking this voyage. It is also pretty remarkable that Charlize doesn’t get top billing, yes?
Rapace is the star of the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and will also appear in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Fassbender was recently Magneto in X-Men: First Class, but also stars in A Dangerous Method as Carl Jung. Elba, Pearce, Foster and Wilson are all easily in my top 20 favorite actors. Foster was downright scary in Hostage and 3:10 to Yuma. He last went to space for Pandorum. Wilson is currently TV’s A Gifted Man.
So, what is Prometheus? The sci fi treat comes to you from the man who first delivered Alien and Blade Runner. In his official synopsis he explains “a groundbreaking mythology” will shine in the film coming 06.08.12, as a team of explorers stumble upon “a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth”. The mystery will lead them to the reaches of outer space where a battle will begin to save the very future of mankind.
Scott doesn’t like to call Prometheus a prequel exactly, but says audiences will recognize the Aliens instantly. They are just one piece of the puzzle of this film, however, and do not take center stage. Also, the cast has been sworn to secrecy and won’t be giving out too many plot details anytime soon. We’ll just have to wait.
