SMASH With Uma Thurman!
Kill Bill’s Uma Thurman isn’t really headed to Broadway but the Oscar-nominated actress is going to pretend she is when she guest stars on NBC’s new midseason musical drama, Smash.
Smash revolves around a group of Broadway hopefuls that are focused on creating a musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. Christian Borle and Debra Messing play the songwriting duo that created the musical, with Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty portraying the actresses that are both fighting for the starring role.
According to TVLine, Thurman will guest star on a five-episode story arc as a character described as a “famous and somewhat difficult movie star who flirts with the idea of starring in Marilyn.”
Smash was created by Steven Spielberg and the pilot was written by Theresa Rebeck. The new musical drama debuts after The Voice on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 10PM. There’s no word at this time on when Thurman’s storyline will air.
Thurman is a big name, and her last stint on TV got her a Golden Globe for 2002’s Hysterical Blindness, but I still think Smash has a tough road ahead because I don’t see the Glee crowd going for a Broadway theme. Is there any other audience out there that might even come close to being interested in something like this?
