Pieces are being shuffled around by the producers of Terra Nova in anticipation (or perhaps blind hope) of Fox renewing the series for a second season. Fox was supposed to make a decision on Terra Nova last week, as the options for cast members Stephen Lang and Jason O’Mara were set to expire Dec. 31. When no such decision was made, picking up Lang and O’Mara became hugely important so the network could delay its decision until January. Hopefully next time they’ll be able to make up their minds.
Perhaps because they’ve been listening to online criticism, but executive producers Brandon Braga Rene Echevarria will be joined by a new batch of high-level writers, as mentioned by Deadline. I would think that by bringing in what I’m assuming would be the best writers in television Terra Nova will be able to structure its second season in a way that doesn’t infuriate those who watch it. Having reviewed the entire first season I can tell you that a change up in the writer’s room is a very, very good idea and I support it 100 percent. At this point, it could only help make things more enjoyable.
Even with fancy new writers, if Fox can’t make a decision about the series soon, it might not make much of a difference. Because Terra Nova takes so much time in post-production (Yay dinosaurs!), production of the series has to start in April, with all the writing and prep work needing to be done even sooner. If Fox delays any longer, Terra Nova will find itself in a very tight schedule.
