How is this for unusual but delightful casting news? Glee is getting a tried a true star, a real Hollywood royal, so to speak. But Dame Helen Mirren won’t necessarily be seen. You’ll hear her voice, however! Allow us to explain.

The insanely popular vocal Fox series, Glee, knows how to use a celeb guest star to their advantage. They can wow fans for sure. So, what’s a creative way to utilize an Oscar winning first lady of screen and stage? Just steal her voice!

TV Line confirms Glee guest star Helen Mirren, will act as the “inner voice” of a character who has yet to be revealed. If I have the scenario right, we will see one actress, but hear Mirren in voice over. I wish my consciousness had a British accent.

In 2010 Mirren portrayed Prospera in The Tempest and Victoria in RED. In 2011 she was the older version of Rachel Singer in The Debt. As for her work on Glee, technically she has already completed it all. The lovely actress already secretly recorded many lengthy and very funny monologues for use on an upcoming episode. She even popped in and surprised everyone on the set. As you can imagine, your favorites were quite stunned.

This role of the “inner voice” of a character was written precisely for Mirren though show makers couldn’t have imagined whether or not she would agree to execute it. As it turns out however, she is a big supporter of the series and it’s message of arts education is near and dear to her heart. Rock on, Helen!
