The biggest, most anticipated films of 2012, in my book, are The Hunger Games, The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, and Prometheus. If you are still sketchy on just what Prometheus is, allow me to clear the fog. The film will come from director Ridley Scott and yes, there will be Aliens on the set.
The film is set in the late 21st Century, or in the science fiction timeline, about thirty years prior to the events of the epic called Alien and what befell the crew of the Nostromo. The action will unfold as the crew of the Prometheus uncover clues to the origins of humanity.
Damon Lindelof is one of the script writers for this return into the darkness of space. Lindelof used to write for a little series called Lost. Now, he’s lost in space. Also a writer for Cowboys & Aliens, he recently told The LA Times, working on the Prometheus script was a little like deja vu all over again. Both the Lost series and the new Ridley Scott film are infused with shadowy secrecy.
There to keep us company as we return to the world of Alien are Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba. You can see Rapace in her space suit above. Lindelof also said Prometheus would be epic. He notes that filmmakers are dead set on making audiences feel like “little gnats crawling around on our little planet”.
Speaking of this cast, over the weekend, Theron’s recent film, Young Adult, got some Golden Globe attention, as did Fassbender and, Golden Globe winner, Mr. Idris Elba. I think we can expect good things from this team.
