Anne Hathaway – Catwoman – Talks Dark Knight Rises and Gotham
Bane might be the talk of the town but his straight-forward attack on Gotham City and Batman leaves little to the imagination, which is why it’s very good to have another angle working with the mysterious and elusive Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. Anne Hathaway recently shared her feelings about being the Cat that confronts the Bat.
Hathaway is merely the latest to walk in the footsteps of Batman’s feline femme fatale, with the last incarnation taking shape on the big screen with Michelle Pfeiffer wearing the skintight leather. No, I don’t count Halle Berry because that movie was a big mistake.
While there have been many that preceded her, Hathaway didn’t succumb to any pressure about living up to what’s been done before. As she revealed to HeroComplex, “What’s come before doesn’t limit or even affect this new version. It doesn’t affect me because each Catwoman – and this is true in the comics as well – she is defined by the context of the Gotham City created around her.”
And speaking of Gotham City, Hathaway reveals the city and its inhabitants aren’t as chaotic as they may first appear, saying that Gotham is “full of grace,” with everyone having their own beliefs and codes of behavior, and that even Selina Kyle has been shaped and defined by her worldview.
Even though we didn’t get to see Hathaway as Catwoman in the recent trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, the speech Selina Kyle delivers to Bruce Wayne on the dance floor has got to be one of the most intriguing moments of the preview, and I can hardly wait to see the movie to find out exactly how she handles the role.
What do you think? Will the former star of The Princess Diaries be able to handle such an iconic role?
