Elizabeth Banks New Effie Hunger Games Looks

There are fashionistas and then there are the fashionistas of Panem, the dystopian future America of The Hunger Games. Case in point, I offer up one Effie Trinket, as portrayed by actress Elizabeth Banks. You’ll never look at fashion in the same light.

Effie is the often stuffy, often bossy escort for the young tributes of District 12. That means it is her job to make sure Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark get everywhere they are going on time. We first see her with pink hair in the first book in The Hunger Games trilogy written by the fabulous Suzanne Collins. She’s all about keeping up appearances and she likes to pretend the games are fashionable, exciting and fun, not frightening, evil and lethal.

As you have probably gleaned by now, there are 12 districts in Panem, and they are all enslaved by the Capital. The people of the Capital really live large and they have an eccentric fashion sense. That’s what makes it so fun to see this glimpse at Effie. She has powdery rose hair, and geisha-looking, icy lipstick. Is that a diamond on her cheek? Some Capital hipsters have even been known to alter their bodies with tattoos and somewhat scary plastic surgery. As for Effie, in this shot, she completes the Japanese theme with an Oriental floral print and bold kimono-esque collar. I must say, Banks is totally channeling the Effie from the books. I can’t wait until March!
