FRINGE – “The Wait” Reprieve

Fox has begun preparations to psych the fans of Fringe up for its grand return on January 14. What we have here today is the latest promotional video, teasing us with the phrase “The wait is almost over.” In the video you will see clip upon clip from throughout the series. There are so many clips in fact that it’s hard to tell which are old and which are new. And believe me, some of them are new. Two in particular stood out to me: the first was a shot of both Lincoln Lees facing each other, a moment that we will see play out in “Back to Where You’ve Never Been” on the 14^th.

The second was at the end of the video. Those of you who are quite familiar with the show’s beginnings will recognize the face of Season 1’s main villain, David Robert Jones (Jared Harris). The shot of him is without a doubt new, as he will be returning in the coming weeks. Now here’s where things get interesting: Jones was killed in the Season 1 finale; fatally cut in half after his attempt to cross over to the other universe was thwarted. Of course, Fringe has been operating in an altered timeline as of late, so his fate may have changed.

It was Peter who managed to shut down Jones’ machine before he could fully cross over, so in a world where Peter didn’t exist he wasn’t there to kill Jones. So did he survive in the new timeline? Or perhaps this is alternate Jones, revealing himself for the first time. We’ll just have to see what Fringe has in store for us.
