The Hunger Games is the first novel in the trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The book is highly addictive, action-packed and dramatic young adult science fiction, which takes place in a dystopian future world. Don’t let the word science fiction steer you away, either. It is easy to follow, easy to identify with, and easy to understand. There are two other books that make the trilogy. They are Catching Fire and Mockingjay.
The first film adaptation, starring Jennifer Lawrence as the reluctant hero, Katniss Everdeen, will hit theaters March 23rd. Fans are chomping at the bit, uber excited to re-live her amazing story on the big screen. And today we have special news on that front. With all the care filmmakers seem to be pouring into The Hunger Games, it ought to be a really great movie. And in that spirit, some attention is already being given to a sequel.
That’s right, according to The Wrap, Simon Beaufoy is now writing a script for a Catching Fire film. Beaufoy had screenwriting duties for Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours, which are both highly critically acclaimed projects. That’s lovely. And Gary Ross, director of The Hunger Games, will return to direct the sequel! That’s equally awesome. He’s even supervising Beaufoy’s work on the Catching Fire script.
The Collins-penned books are best sellers. Where as The Hunger Games follows Katniss as she enters the televised gladiatorial-type games for the first time, Catching Fire reveals the aftermath of her influence on her world as a tribute contender. Panem may never be the same again.
