Liv Tyler a Science Fiction Side Effect

Liv Tyler, The Side Effect, Ti West

Pay attention movie fans, because today’s science fiction and horror update really packs a punch. At the heart of it is actress Liv Tyler. Her dear dad and American Idol judge may be engaged, but when it comes to Liv Tyler news, there’s been a bit of a drought. That’s okay, because today we can announce that she’s won a new sci fi gig.

Perhaps most famous for wearing pointy little ears in the role of Arwen of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Tyler was seen last year in a thriller called The Ledge, opposite Terrence Howard and Patrick Wilson and in quirky picture, Super, with Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page. Her current big news came to us from Deadline. She has been cast in the new Ti West sci fi/ thriller, The Side Effect.

Ti West is a name you will want to remember. He will debut his film called V/H/S at Sundance. He helped to write and direct the horror entry, which surrounds a group of criminals who are hired by a shadowy figure to find and return a VHS tape. The job sounds easy enough, until they wind up inside a remote old shack with a corpse in the living room. The body is surrounded by a gazillion VHS tapes in stacks. To find the right one, they must watch them all, and each bit of recorded footage is more horrifying than the last.

If that sounds like a shocking good time, then you’ll also be interested in the psychological, sci fi, thriller in which Ti West has cast Tyler. In The Side Effect, Tyler will act as Catherine Rigby, a woman who endures several long months all alone in outer space in an experimental trial hosted by a pharmaceutical company. During the trial, Catherine discovers she is suddenly and mysteriously pregnant. Talk about horror, this is some pretty frightening stuff.

I’m reminded of the Duncan Jones film, Moon, where an astronaut, also stranded alone in space, discovers some frightening things about his contractor…and himself. But at least he didn’t turn up with child! Color me intrigued.
