Robert Pattinson Rated R for Bel Ami?
Not every Twihard will be sitting elbow to elbow with you when you finally get to view Robert Pattinson’s dramatic turn in a European period drama. Why not? Well, Bel Ami may be rated R.
Let’s face it, much of Robert Pattinson’s career has been fueled by teen fans. True, his first professional film credit seems to be Vanity Fair, another period drama with lovely costumes, which starred his Water for Elephants co-star, Reese Witherspoon. As Cedric Diggory, however, in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, young lovers of J.K. Rowling were his primary audience. The Twilight Saga phenomenon only cemented the actor’s status as a teen’s idol. And Pattinson is in her 20′s after all, so it all makes sense. Remember Me was also targeted at the young at heart. And though Water for Elephants can melt the heart of any romance lover, young adults were probably more apt to purchase tickets, hungry to see their Pattinson being romantic once again, this time NOT as Edward Cullen.
While it must be exciting to see Rob in a more dramatic role, absolutely surrounded by sharp female actors, many of whom have been famous much longer than he, that R rating can’t be ignored. Let’s not forget that Georges, the lead character in the film, is kind of despicable anyway. He seduces wealthy women to climb the social ladder. There is plenty of sex in this film. It may not be every Twilighter’s cup of tea anyway. But keep your chin up. Don’t forget Cosmopolis is coming. But will it receive an R-rating, too? The news of Bel Ami‘s rating came from filmratings.com.
