Ever since Monday, January 23rd, NBC has been streaming the pilot episode for it’s new musical series, Smash. The early release is a model for success that other networks have been using for some time, with NBC joining the fray. Unlike other networks, NBC really needs a win, so the hope is by releasing the pilot early it will drum up excitement for the series and potentially draw in even more viewers. I have to say it was a smart idea. Having watched the pilot I cannot wait to go around to all my friends and family and tell them watch Smash.
The series will follow a group of characters as they attempt to create a musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. The series stars a number of fabulous actors and actresses, most notably Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, and Katharine McPhee (so hot!). So stop reading this and go watch the show on NBC.com. The show is a musical, with the cast occasionally breaking in to song. This might remind of you of another musical series that airs on Fox, but let me assure you; Smash has very little in common with Glee. For one thing, Smash performs original songs (though the occasional pop song does make an appearance). As someone who loves to hate on Glee, a big issue I had with that show is its terrible song choices.
The official premiere for Smash is on Monday, February 6th, and my fingers are crossed for this series. The pilot had a lot of heart to it and I hope the rest of the world sees that and gives this series a chance.

I almost never comment of shows and I rarely if ever repeat watching a show within a year of my initial viewing but I have watched Smash! 4 times in the last 2 weeks. This show has heart and a story line that will take the viewer to place rarely seen on television – behind the scenes of a Broadway play. The initial episode has definitely left me wanting more … so much so that I cannot help myself but recommend it. See it on Itunes or at CBS.com for free!!!
