Californication Season 6 Go – House of Lies and Shameless Re-upped

House of Lies Showtime

Showtime must be feeling pretty cocky to have renewed all of its winter comedies in one swoop (those being veteran series Californication, newcomer House of Lies, and Shameless). It’s easy to throw around the word “cocky” at a network and use it in a negative fashion, but in this instance Showtime has every right to be as cocky as they see fit. These three shows are killing it in the ratings and have shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Entertainment president David Nevins had this to say about the renewals: “These three shows are clearly resonating with audiences as evidenced by their steady growth on Sunday nights.” He went on to say that the creative work for the shows have been extremely pleasing, with each one doing a great job of displaying its own “voice.” The ratings climb for Showtime isn’t a rarity. With the shorter seasons on cable network, viewers can catch up more quickly to the current episodes.

Let’s do a quick ratings break down to give you an idea of just how well Shameless, House of Lies, and Californication are doing. On average Shameless pulls in 5 million viewers, while House of Lies, which is only four episodes in to its first season, is fast approaching the title of highest-rated comedy on Showtime. As for Californication, it is up 10 percent from the previous season. Now, those numbers might not be good for a broadcast network like CBS, but for cable it’s magnificent.
