Game of Thrones Hound Sounds Off
One of HBO’s Game of Thrones‘ quieter characters, Sandor Clegane AKA The Hound, is known for being a large, scary looking man with a conflicted heart. During the first season, he demonstrated his soft spot for Sansa Stark’s predicament, being betrothed to the bully, King Joffrey. What you may not know is the man behind The Hound, Rory McCann, is equally as tenderhearted. In fact, he recently hurt himself after taking a tumble down a hill in attempt to feed some birds during a rainstorm.
McCann spoke with Access Hollywood, giving a lengthy interview about his life in and around Game of Thrones. He explains a lot about whom Clegane is, specifically as a man whose actions speak louder than his words. He may not enjoy being the protector to a selfish, spoiled king, but he uses his position to look after poor Sansa. Joffrey’s bullying reminds Clegane of his own childhood, which was made tough by an equally unkind brother who was the cause for Clegane’s scarring on his face. Speaking of that scar, McCann happily talks about the hours that go into putting on such a hideous piece of his character.
The best part of hearing from the actors of GoT is hearing how they view the fandom. Knowing just how knowledgeable they are, McCann isn’t afraid of turning to an online forum for insight on how Clegane thinks. I find it flattering that he can so easily turn to us for pointers. It must be easy to play a character with his entire backstory already written out and analyzed by millions of people.
