GAME OF THRONES Season 2 – Podrick Payne Speaks!

When you are embroiled in a special brand of political intrigue, complete with dragons, dire wolves, and swords, it’s good to have a friend. Emmy Award winning actor Peter Dinklage, or rather, his character, Tyrion Lannister, is about to get just that. For HBO’s Game of Thrones Season 2, Lannister lands a fresh new ally who will accompany him to King’s Landing starting April 1st. We’re not foolin’ either. That ally comes in the form of Scottish actor Daniel Portman, who will fill the shoes of Podrick Payne.

Portman is only 19 years old and his character, Podrick, has been described by Access Hollywood as the rather “insecure” squire to the new Hand of the King. Fans of the books will already know that Podrick becomes a great help to Tyrion.

Portman says his character is “a distant cousin of the executioner Ser Ilyn Payne”, but is very insignificant in the House of Payne hierarchy. In fact, getting him as a squire will seem like kind of a bad joke. But luckily, “Pod’s not exactly what he seems,” hints Portman. Portman also clues in fans of the series that he is not very much like his character. Where Pod is shy and not very confident, Portman is much more outgoing. He is a big fan of his co-star, however, as are we here at Boomtron.

So this is just another exciting element to watch for when the action packed new season of Game of Thrones begins. When we learn more, you will, too!
