Game of Thrones Season 2 – The Rank and File

Game of Thrones HBO

Game of Thrones Season 2 is still a couple of months away, but you can spend the meantime immersing yourself in the myriad bonus content supplied by HBO. They’ve always been good at dishing out extra videos and behind the scenes content to appease the masses of fans that will chomp at the bit for even the tiniest of teases. The latest video put out by HBO takes a brief three-minute look into what goes into being an extra on Game of Thrones.

As seen on the show’s Facebook page, which is filled with all the latest videos and information regarding Season 2, the video features interviews with GoTs crew members who deal with the extras the most. Colin Azzopardi, the crowd assistant director, lets us know the majority of the extras are simply fans of the show that want to be a part of the machine that has churned out such a magnificent series. Unfortunately, to be part of that machine means putting up with some intense conditions.

According to Tara Van Zyl, the wardrobe supervisor, the extras have to up on set at 5 AM to get their make up and costumes ready. They all have to come in a whole day before just to so they can be fitted for their costumes, which are mostly made from scratch by the way. There’s a lot of waiting involved with being part of the background, but make no mistake; the extras are still a very important part of what makes the world of Westeros seem real.
