Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in more Twilight?
And so my dearest readers, we come back to the topic of Twilight, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. It is always sad when a franchise comes to an end, for the fans, for its creator and most certainly for the executives that made millions off of it. Now that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 is due out this November will this be the end of Twilight forever?
Lionsgate, which now owns the “Twilight” studio Summit Entertainment, has indicated that they would be happy to do a sixth movie if author Stephenie Meyer wanted to write one. In fact the Lionsgate Co-Chair Rob Friedman has stated through the media that “if she (Meyer) wishes to do it, we’ll be there to support her.” Meyer was annoyed by the comment even though she has never ruled out writing another Twilight. Her irritation is documented on Twitter. The most Meyer has ever said is that she was “a little burned out on vampires right now,” and she needed a bit of a break. A few years back Meyers did begin to write a fifth book entitled Midnight Sun but after a few chapters were leaked online, Meyers gave up on finishing it stating she felt too “sad” about what had happened and she wouldn’t be able to continue writing while in her current frame of mind.
Even if Meyer were to write another book which happened to be adapted for the big screen would the current Bella and Edward reprise their roles? According to BSCKids.com when asked about starring in another Twilight movie, actor Robert Pattinson said this, “I’d be curious what Stephenie would write, but I just think I’d probably be too old. I’m already too old.” Pattinson who is twenty-five now will not likely return as Edward Cullen. He does make a good point about his age, although twenty-five is not old by any stretch, Edward Cullen is an immortal, frozen in time at seventeen and though he will never age, Pattinson will. Kristin Stewart on the other hand may be able to return as Bella since she is only twenty-one.
But why do fans love these books so much? Why have the movies grossed over $2 billion worldwide? The secret lies in the characters. The author created a main character which is an empty shell. Bella is never described in detail so anyone who reads the book can easily slip into the character and fantasize about being this person. Next, Bella’s personality which is portrayed as insecure, fumbling and awkward will fit anyone who ever went through puberty. Enter stage right, Edward, who is described in-depth and in exaggerated detail. Imagine everything a girl would want in her sweetie then multiply it by a million and you’ve got Edward. Meyer excruciatingly details his muscular pecs, clothing, hair, eye color and if I’m not mistaken even his breath. What the author has done is created a perfect male figure which the reader can worship and in turn be worshiped by. Disregard the fact that most people can’t make it through the first 200 pages of the book without wanting to toss it across the room, and you’ve got the perfect formula for a teenage angst book.
Despite the magnitude of success for the Twilight books and movie franchise Meyer will be leaving it alone for at least a couple of years. She wants to wait until all the hype dies down before introducing another chapter in the Bella and Edward love story. Even if Meyer takes 10 years, the next wave of teens will likely eat it up in the same fashion as today’s teens, and Lionsgate will be there to “help”. So my Twihard’s it’s time to stop looking for a new Twilight book, because Meyer won’t be writing one very soon.
