Stephen Amell is CW’s GREEN ARROW

DC Comics, Smallville, Green Arrow, Arrow, CW

As you heard right here on Boomtron, the green light has been given to the Green Arrow project, simply titled Arrow. The new series for the CW network is a spin-off of Superman’s younger-year drama, Smallville, which ran for ten seasons. You might have thought the starring role in this series would be given to Smallville actor, the quite gorgeous, Justin Hartley, who was that show’s Oliver Queen. It appears you’d be wrong, however! This just in, Stephen Amell is our new man in green.

Deadline reports Amell won the title role in Arrow. the project is produced by Warner Bros, and like Smallville before it, is a retelling of the classic DC Comics tale. Amell is Oliver Queen, of course, playboy millionaire by day, and bow and arrow wielding vigilante by night. He’s even a politician. No word yet on whether the show will flirt with Queen’s alcoholism. David Nutter will direct the pilot.

Amell comes to us from Canada and this show could make him an overnight star. If the young man looks familiar to you, it could be for several reasons. He has already appeared on the Vampire Diaries and 90210. He has a recurring role on HBO’s Hung and on ABC’s Private Practice. He was even being considered to replace Andy Whitfield on Spartacus!
