The Future of Sons of Anarchy

Sons of Anarchy FX

We here are Boomtron reported last week on the potential future for FX’s Sons of Anarchy. At the time it seemed like the popular series would be getting renewed for a sixth and seventh season on top of it’s already promised fifth season. The news began popping up as Sons creator Kurt Sutter entered negotiations with FX. He Tweeted about signing a deal for three more years at FX and at long last we can confirm the deal to be 100% true.

The Hollywood Reporter dug deep in to the story, spending a lot of time speaking with Sutter about what the future holds for him. His deal for sure includes Season 5 and 6 of Sons, and the three year deal would likely mean a seventh, and probably final, season. With his show’s future guaranteed, Sutter is free to tell the story he wants at the pace he feels is best. He’s not dead set on a seven season series either, keeping the option open for an eighth season if it makes sense financially and from a story perspective.

Part of the deal allows Sutter to develop freely for both cable and broadcast. This also makes Sutter the longest-tenured writer at FX. From where I’m sitting it seems like he has put himself in a very comfy situation. He’s being given a lot of freedom to do as he wishes with his series while opening up possibilities to work on other projects should they come up. If I were Sutter I would be very happy with my life.
