Guillermo Del Toro Produced Dreamworks Film Gets Trailer

Rise of the Guardians

Every child across the globe is familiar with their ever present holiday icons. Their personalities might be different from country to country but the ideas are still the same. It is with this concept in mind that DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures has scooped up our best known holiday representations and has turned them into epic defenders in a new animated feature film.

Guillermo Del Toro is set to produce alongside DreamWorks for the new 3D animation of Rise of the Guardians. The action/adventure film is based on William Joyce’s Guardians of Childhood book series, and Joyce will be co-directing the picture with Peter Ramsey.

Rise of the Guardians revolves around a group of “guardians”, in this case, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Sandman and the Tooth Fairy. The four join forces when the Boogeyman threatens total darkness across the globe by inspiring nothing but fear into the hopes, beliefs, and imagination of children all over the world.

Take a sneak peek of Rise of the Guardian by watching the trailer below. Get a first hand look at how they’ve turned our favourite fairytale characters into kick-butt magic using guardians of the world’s children. Starring in the animation are; Alec Baldwin as Nicholas St. North or North for short, Hugh Jackman as E. Aster Bunnymund, Isla Fisher as Tooth the Tooth Fairy, and Tom Kenny as Sandman. Chris Pine (Star Trek) will be adding his voice talents as well, giving life to the Jack Frost character. As the Boogeyman or Pitch as he is called in Rise of the Guardians will be the ever impressive Jude Law.

The trailer starts out with the characters doing what they do best, collecting teeth, bringing dreams, and making toys and Easter eggs. But as the narrator says, “our powers are greater than you ever imagined,” and justly so. If we count on these mythological characters to be our guardians and to protect all the children, they better have some pretty good powers!

The animation looks wonderful for this film and the plot, though simple and child-like makes me want to watch it. What can I say, I’m a sucker for the cute animations. The character design looks even more fantastic, I was thoroughly impressed by how Santa Claus is portrayed in this film. Though the character retains his rotund physique, the man is pretty bad ass, complete with “Naughty” and “Nice” tattoo’s on his forearms.

This is definitely a film to watch with the family! Don’t forget to check out the trailer for Rise of the Guardians below and watch for it when it comes to theatres November 21, 2012.

Guillermo Del Toro wasn’t cinematographer on Twilight Breaking Dawn, but his collaborator Guillermo Navaro was.
