Starz Da Vinci’s Demons Lands Female Lead Laura Haddock

Da Vinci's Demons Starz

Having already found its male lead, Starz’s Da Vinci’s Demons required a female lead to play opposite Tom Riley and it would appear they found the perfect actress for the part in Laura Haddock. Starz is quickly putting together an impressive line up of shows, with this along with Magic City. They’re certainly making a bigger push into the scripted drama territory that other subscription networks like HBO have dominated.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Da Vinci’s Demons requires Haddock to play Lucrezia Donati, the mistress of Lorenzo Medici and the lover of Leonardo da Vinci. That likely means she’ll be having lots of sex, but don’t hold me to that. The series will follow da Vinci, but it will be a fantastical take on the historic figure. He’ll still be all the things we love about him; an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer, and an idealist, but where things get a little crazy is when he starts to struggle with living in his reality while being able to see, and thus invent, the future.

Many of da Vinci’s drawings depict potential inventions that mirror modern technologies. He had several pictures resembling helicopters. This definitely sounds like it could be a series worth watching, if just for the fantasy elements that will be in play. If Starz can make this thing a hit, it might prove its worth in the world of scripted dramas.
