Vampire Diaries’ Malese Jow and Make It Or Break It’s Zachary Abel Land at CW
While every other pilot project had found its leading men and women, the CW’s drama pilot Shelter (from the minds of J.J. Abrams and Once Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn) was still struggling to find the right man and woman to help bring this show to life. All worries can now be set aside. Zachary Able (Make It Or Break It) and Malese Jow (The Vampire Diaries) have both been cast. I bet the producers breathed a big sigh of relief when they finally made the decision to hire these two. To be the last pilot to find its leads seems like a stressful situation to be in. After all, you can’t film the show until you have stars!
Deadline confirmed the casting of Abel and Jow for the Warner Bros. TV produced pilot. Taking place at a historic summer resort in New England, Shelter follows the new and returning staff of the Shelter Bay Inn, where they will deal with the practical, emotional and often comical needs of the guests. All the while the staff will be navigating through friendships, rivalries and romances of their own. It sounds like every customer service job I’ve ever had, making this an instantly relatable concept for me and anyone else that’s had to work in a similar environment.
Shelter will see Abel portraying the hopeless romantic Mitchell Taylor, a former local baseball hero who will be working behind the concierge desk at the inn. Jow is playing Morgan, the typical party girl. Their casting would suggest a potential romance between the two, but that’s just my own speculation. I’m more interested in how the Abrams and Schwahn will mesh their styles together. Abrams is primarily known for giant genre shows, heavy in mythology and science fiction. Schwahn, known for creating One Tree Hill, is more focused on character drama. How the two will work together will be interesting to see.
