Game of Thrones – How Much Does Richard Madden Know?

Game of Thrones HBO

Given that HBO’s Game of Thrones is based off the book series A Song of Ice and Fire, it’s not out of the question to wonder just how much the actors, such as Richard Madden (the subject of this post) know about their characters’ fates. Madden was kind enough to tell us exactly what he knows about the future of his character, the young Robb Stark, but be warned; if you haven’t read the books, stop reading right now. This could get a little spoilery, and I’d hate to ruin too much for you. So, one last chance; don’t read any further if you don’t want to be spoiled.

In an interview with MTV (see video below), Madden was asked how much information he knows about Robb and his arc in the books. He tells us he has only read up to the second book, A Clash of Kings, which basically tells us he’s only read the material the second season of Game of Thrones covers. That must take a lot of willpower. In fact, Madden says he hasn’t read ahead because he wants the show to still be surprising and that he doesn’t want his foreknowledge to affect his performance in any way. He is pretty excited to begin reading the third book, A Storm of Swords, now that Game of Thrones has been given the go ahead for a third season, which is when Robb’s story really gets crazy and exciting.

About Brody Gibson

+Brody Gibson studied film in Vancouver, BC. I originally intended to become a video editor, but realized I have a passion for writing. To say I love television is a bit of an understatement. I watch it religiously, think about it constantly. To be able to talk about it is one the best things in the world. Combining that with my love of writing gives me the opportunity to express my opinions to the Internet masses and start gripping conversations.
