The Avengers, including Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, is still thundering away past a billion so it’s only right bit of casting for other MARVEL films start circulating. Earlier today we pointed you to a bit of news letting you know that Idris Elba would be returning to Asgard for Thor 2, and now we have an addition to the third Iron Man to note.

Variety is reporting that former Lord of the Flies islander and Pacific (loves the ocean, apparently) star has nabbed the role Eric Savin, a military man who in the comics becomes Coldblood, a cyborg soldier who debuted back in ’89 in the comics.

Iron Man 3 is very interesting to me because it’s the first of the Iron Man films not directed by Jon Farveau, and is instead being helmed by Shane Black.  Black, who is also co-writing the screenplay, directed a film called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which could be described as hell of awesome, and also starred Downey Jr. Word on the street is that the film will be influenced by the Extremis arc from the MARVEL comic, which is great idea, because pilfering ideas from Warren Ellis just always is.

Iron Man 3 is scheduled for a May 2013 release.
