True Blood Season 5 Trailer Teases Meloni and Sookie/Alicde

True Blood HBO

The first real trailer, meaning it’s not just a little teaser designed to make your blood boil with anticipation, for True Blood Season 5 has been released online and it is something else to behold. Not only do we get the obvious introduction to Chris Meloni’s new vampire character, but also we get a very quick tease for a possible Sookie/Alcide romance. I’m not of a big vampire guy, so whenever there’s a werewolf kicking around I always end up rooting for him to win the girl. And that’s really just the tip of the iceberg for this trailer. There is so much thrown at you it’s completely understandable if you come away from it thinking, “What the heck did I just watch?”

The trailer begins by reminding us Tara was shot in the head at the end of Season 4, then almost immediately flying into a flurry of images. This would be a good time to pause the video and go frame by frame. Thankfully things slow down so we can learn what Eric plans to do about Russell’s return. Not only do they have to worry about what this crazy vamp is going to do, but also they need to put up with the Vampire Authority, seemingly led by Chris Meloni (he just works so well as imposing force). To be sure we know how serious the situation is, Bill proposes going to Sookie for help, whether she is willing or not. Yikes. Some smaller stuff happens, like the suggestion of humans becoming like farm animals.

And then there’s an explosion.

Tension between humans and vampires seems to be building, evidenced by Eric being caught in a net, apparently by humans. We see Sookie using her fairy powers AND THEN SHE AND ALCIDE ALMOST KISS. Ahem. Lafayette then calls Sookie the angel of death. Wow. Harsh much, Lafayette? More happens, but there’s just so much. I can only comment on what really stands out to me. Check out what you missed in the trailer below.
